Summary

File history – Snapshots for "File storage" service

Detailed Information

The system takes snapshots of the storage volume according to a pre-defined plan (see ). These snapshots capture the status of the volume and conserve the additions, modifications and deletions of files or directories, thus creating a file history. They are replicated along with the other data in the volume.

However, it is important to note that this planning is automatic, and that – in the case of several modifications of the same object between two snapshots – only the last version will be kept in the most recent snapshot of the two.

The space reserved for snapshots is not invoiced: it corresponds to 25% of the volume ordered for “collaborative” storage, and 5% for “on-line archive”. When this space is full, the oldest snapshots are automatically deleted, even if their lifespan has not been reached.

Each end-user has access to these snapshots and can use them to retrieve older versions of data. Table 4 shows the policy for taking snapshots for “collaborative” storage and for “on-line archive”.
